CARLOW Canine Club hosted the last totally outdoors show of the busy show season on the third Saturday in September, attracting an excellent entry of 1,300 dogs, further enhanced by a further 80 dogs for the obedience and agility disciplines.
As always, the large spacious venue at the Carlow Hurling Grounds was well laid out, giving plenty of room for good sized rings, and the parking available always leaves space for many to have access close to their designated rings. Add in the proximity of the restaurant, open early doors to supply hot and welcoming breakfasts, and it’s easy to see why the show is so well supported.
Secretary Noreen Clarke was justifiably very happy with the entry, overseeing the show from her vantage point high up in the clubhouse, while show manager Des Kavanagh, taking time off from his 40th wedding anniversary celebrations, was very much in evidence both in sight and sound, welcoming us at the start of the day to the ‘Autumn Classic’ and also keeping the partisan crowd up to date on the World Cup rugby as Ireland opened their campaign against Romania!
Sponsored once again by Happy Dog, represented in the photographs by Andrea Stubbs and Davy Bleakley, the show had appointed an array of judges from home and abroad, and with pre-judging in several of the groups and a welcome starting time of 10.30am, the show was done and dusted at shortly after 5pm, yet again another success for Carlow.
