Staff costs account for nearly half KCís expenditure

STAFF costs amount to nearly 50 per cent of the Kennel Club’s expenditure it was pointed out at the annual meeting.

In the ‘administrative expenses’ section of the accounts, the costs last year amounted to £9,461m of a £20,734m total.

At the AGM KC member Ron Stewart said accounts showed that senior staff at the club appeared to have received a seven per cent increase in salary last year and ‘ordinary’ staff 4.7 per cent. He suggested that the KC’s new Review Committee might like to give members a presentation on the policy and strategy involved. Board member Mark Cocozza told him his comments would be considered.

Afterwards the KC said: “We are happy to clarify this matter. On a like-for-like basis the salary bill increased by 2.6 per cent (last year). The club recruited more staff in 2016 due to the introduction of compulsory microchipping and the consequent expansion of Petlog, and this with other exceptionals gave rise to a total increase in salaries of 4.7 per cent.”
