Birmingham National championship show

08/05/2017

Keeping it Real at the National - WITH A blue sky over the Staffordshire Showground, a large red prize card hanging from the balcony and the beautiful flower archway leading into a flower-decorated best in show ring, it could only mean one thing… the show season is underway and it was time for Birmingham National championship show.

The society has a great set up which has worked for a number of years and uses all the space the showground can offer. There are 24 rings and a BIS ring set up in the seven buildings as well as a large and stable pavilion which is set up outside for the large or numerically large breeds over the four days.

The committee even works out the car parking and tries to make sure that exhibitors are parked as close to their rings and benching as possible.

The show has always hosted a large variety of trade stands with a number of them setting up inside and a handful braving the British weather outside the Bingley Hall.

This year the show had only a few changes of judge. Terry Balfour-Burgess judged Miniature Pinschers and the utility puppy group, Mike Vincent was a replacement judge for Schipperkes and Irene Hassell judged Japanese Akita Inu.

The officers and committee members of Birmingham Dog Show Society are always looking for ways to improve their show for future years and are open to new ideas. Over the years they have made a number of changes to help and encourage exhibitors to support the show.

For several years the show has held puppy and veteran groups, pre-judging them in another ring but allowing them all to experience the limelight in the BIS ring.

It also organises for a British Veterinary Association eye specialist to carry out eye tests over the for days, while a Good Citizen assessor is present so that dogs can take part in the bronze test and hopefully go home with a certificate and rosette.

This is one of the few shows that still holds both Young Kennel Club stakes and handling classes for the younger generation and many young handlers can be seen smiling when they realise they have won prize money which is provided by the society for first to fourth places. The society also provides a room in which are held jam-packed training days which are run by YKC helpers and members to help to encourage the up-and-coming handlers.

The society works with breed clubs, offering a room above the grandstand for committee meetings as well as providing a venue for three club shows, one of these being the Border Collies which had around 200 dogs entered at each show. Judging started in the  National ring at 8.30am and in the club show ring at 9.15am.

The society also offers seminars run by Christina Chapman to encourage new exhibitors and to help, support and widen the knowledge of current exhibitors. These were well received and a number of new people who attended the seminars told Christina they are looking forward to exhibiting at their first dog show.

Secretary Jennie Griffiths said: “We’re fortunate to have a number of great stewards who come back every year and help us run a successful show.”

The society provides an unentered dog tent which is supervised by Rottweiler Rescue so that dogs can be well cared for while their owners are taking part in the show. A free daily draw is held for a number of great prizes with the winners announced on the speakers throughout the day.

The weather was lovely for most of the time and all the category three breeds passed their health checks.

Exhibitors and judges were kept refreshed around the group ring as the society offered free cake and drinks to all who had stayed to support the BOB winners. A lovely touch was that all dogs who were shortlisted but not placed in the group received a lovely ‘shortlisted’ ribbon when they left the ring.

After all the judging had been completed it was time for the finale. After the best in show judge Bill Browne-Cole was escorted into the ring to complete his seventh such appointment it was time for the seven group winners to enter the ring. After he assessed each group winner individually and moved them round to the top end of the ring it wasn’t long before the boards had been called for and Michael Coad was making his way to the BIS podium with his and Rich Smith’s Bichon Frisé Pamplona The Real McCoy, with Faye Bevis with her, her mother Carole and Rachael Corr’s Akita Ch Stecal’s Love At First Sight ot on his heels taking the RBIS spot.

After a lap of honour it was time for the youngsters to take to the BIS ring. Commentator Jenny Shorer-Wheeler announced each puppy group winner back into the ring and Bill did his individual assessments and watched them move around the ring once more. The board were called for and taking the top spot was Amelia and Annette Siddle’s Pointer Wilchrimane Frankel with the reserve spot going to Holly Attwood’s Pug Rhodenash Dream Chaser of Taftazini.

The final competition to be judged was best veteran and as the working winner was absent they were only six representatives. They put on a performance of a lifetime and Bill awarded BVIS to Sue Smith and Val Freer’s Samoyed Ch Nikara Diamond Dancer and reserve to Nigel, Jenny and Ben Egginton’s Spanish Water Dog Sp/Sw Ch Curioso de ka Ribera del Genil Valentisimo.

With another successful show done and dusted, who knows what the show season may bring. Could your dog be Birmingham 2018 BIS winner?

BILL BROWNE-COLE

Gundog group

It was a great pleasure to judge the gundog group at this show, tinged with sadness as the late & much missed Meriel Hathaway had been the person to put me forward. I had a really enjoyable day, everything seemed to run smoothly.

I thought this was quite a strong group, certainly lot of dogs to consider for a further look. I did think too many lacked muscle, which was reflected when they moved. I whittled it down to 9 for a second look.

The contenders who didn’t quite get a place were: the Bracco, Sh Ch Gunsyn Aafia, who moved with the required long & elastic stride, ideal body proportions & a lovely coat & skin; GWP, Sh Ch Bareve Bontebokskraal, really strong dog who was a powerful mover, super head & in perfect coat; Irish Setter, Sh Ch Ember Red Hot Chilipepper of Quensha, one of many super veterans in the group. He is a very handsome dog, lovely head, eye & expression. Super body & firm in topline; Duck Toller, Sh Ch/Int/Lux/Bel/Dutch Ch Riverwatcher Atka, really liked his outline & balance, good head & very well put together; & the Sussex, Ivcar Anything Goes, beautiful head & a really typical Sussex expression, good to see the correct colour, he is so very sound & holds a perfect topline.

My winner was Sh Ch Alanea Summer Cottage, Irish R/W Setter, she really is the most lovely example of her breed & today was in top firm. She has a very good head, is so beautifully made, great body & a very good mover. The icing is her beautiful clear pearly white colour with red splashes.

G2 was Sh Ch Gloi Donn All Or Nothing at Stanegate, quite a young Irish Water Spaniel, he is a super mover, with that lovely clown like attitude. Very good front, correct ribcage, ideal proportions & in super bloom.

G3 was Sh Ch Mariglen Xanthe, English Setter, so very feminine & typical. She has a good head & a lovely expression. Correct length of neck, grand body & uses her tail so very well moving.

G4 was Multi Ch Curioso de la Ribera del Genil Valentisimo, Spanish Water Dog, at 12 years old he is amazing, one of the very best movers in the group & he is so very fit & well muscled. I liked his proportions & sturdiness, has a firm topline & correct coat texture. Delighted to see him also win the strong veteran group under Liz Cartledge.

JEFF HORSWELL

Gundog puppy group

I shortlisted the Bracchi, English Setter, Pointer, C/c Retriever, Cocker, Labrador & Weimaraner.

After a further look I pulled out PG1 the Pointer, Wilchrimane Frankel, good head, bone & feet, lovely body & good gleaming coat & hard condition. Kept her topline well on the move & was obviously enjoying every minute.

PG2 the Cocker, Manchela Where The Heart Is, what a lovely o/r, excelled in head & expression, good quarters, excellent coat & condition, just lost out to 1st as she was a little unsettled on the final move.

PG3 the Bracchi, Braccorions Just As You Are at Elfrindew, I fell for this bitch, in the most lovely hard condition with a gentle expression, excelled in hindquarters & true movement.

PG4 the C/c Retriever, Brightmeadow Never Say Die, mature boy, good straight front, nice size, in good curl & crisp coat for age. Good topline & moved well both ways.

Many thanks to every owner of the breed puppy winners for staying, it’s a long day for youngsters.

DENISE BARNEY

Hound group

I had a most enjoyable day judging what I felt was my strongest hound group to date. So a big thank you must go to the breed judges for the quality of the BOBs they sent through for me to judge. The National is always one of my favourite shows of the year. A well organised show with very friendly committee & excellent hospitality. The National holds a special place with me as it was my first show at which I awarded CCs. Thank you once again to the officers & committee.

My final shortlist of ten consisted of the Afghan, PBGV, Beagle, W/h Dachs, Min W/h Dachs, Finnish Spitz, Wolfhound, Elkhound, Ridgeback & the Whippet.

In 1st place came the PBGV, Ch Soletrader Magic Mike, this young dog just typifies the breed & shouts Petit. So well balanced with excellent outline & correct height to length body proportions. His head proportions are spot on, with dark eye & good pigment. His presentation fits the Standard. Very pleasing to go over on the table. On the move he excels, so sound & parallel on the out & back with excellent side gait & tail carriage.

G2 the Beagle, Ch Dialynne Peter Piper, very close up to my winner. Loved his balance & outline. Masculine head without coarseness. Dark eye giving mild appealing expression. Clean well laid shoulder, level back & well set tail. Excels in side gait covering the ground with ease.

G3 the Finnish Spitz, Ch/Ir Ch Kunniakas Look No Further for Whittimere, this 8 year old male with bright, lively, almond shaped eyes & mobile ears. Well proportioned almost square body. Never put a foot wrong moving with a light & springy gait that was quick & graceful with drive. A credit to the breed.

G4 the Afghan, Saxonmill Rum Tum Ricochet, a young 22 month old male who has good outline & is well balanced. Proud head carriage, clean well laid shoulder & level back. Powerful hindquarters. Moved soundly out & back & covered the ground with a smooth & springy side gait.

PHIL FREER

Hound puppy group

A big thank you to the National & the officers & committee for the invitation to judge the hound puppy group. It is always a very enjoyable experience to judge such a lovely collection of puppies! I was spoilt for choice for a shortlist. So many of them I am sure will go on to become future champions!

I shortlisted the Basset, Beagle, S/h Dachs, Min W/h Dachs, Deerhound, Wolfhound, Pharaoh Hound, Saluki & Whippet.

PG1 was Quincerhound Britney of Dialynne, my winner was the most feminine Beagle who has excellent breed type. From her well proportioned head, dark eyes giving that lovely soft Beagle expression to her beautiful balanced body. She was sound on the move with a lovely attitude. She put up a foot perfect performance to win a very strong hound puppy group!

PG2 was Tiobraid Solo Venture to Kilbourne, a very elegant & dignified Deerhound of lovely breed type. Correct head & dark eyes. He is of good bone, size & balance. On the move he is a joy to watch, long strides & so sound for one so young. Should have a great future! I could have taken him home!

PG3 was Bromp Brian Smart, a very promising r/w Basset dog who has everything in the right place but still very much a baby. Sound on the move & has good breed type! Should have a bright future.

PG4 was Lauralee To The Manor Born, a beautiful red S/h Dachs who has so much to like! A head of correct proportions with a lovely dark eye. Pleasing front assembly, prominent breast bone, correct shoulders & well ribbed. She is well balanced with no sign of coarseness. She is sound on the move & kept a good outline standing & moving. Shall watch her future with interest.

MARITA RODGERS

Hound veteran group

VG1 was Ch/Ir Ch Kunniakas Look No Further for Whittimere, Finnish Spitz dog, I judged this dog years ago when he was quite young, it was lovely today to see him at 8 years in his full mature glory. Such quality, showing strength good construction & soundness. He really moved round that ring looking so impressive. Hard to believe he is now a veteran

VG2 was Ch Bronia Lotario, L/h Dachshund, this boy flowed from head to tail so balanced. In great condition he gleamed. Such a handsome boy with everything in the right place, he really appealed.

VG3 was Ch/Am Dual Ch Bensarka Phoenix Sun, S/h Dachshund, this lad caught my eye for his elegance & balance, Lovely filled in head, forechest & sweep of keel. Strong topline & good bone, rounded croup, well set tail & carriage in all a very attractive dog.

VG4 was Ch Ithim Agus Suim, Elkhound dog, I love this old boy having watched him from puppyhood to now at 11 years. Still so active & full of character. A lovely positive mover & quality boy.

SUE HEWART-CHAMBERS

Pastoral group

I have many happy memories of judging at the National Dog Show, & particularly when I had the great honour of judging BIS at the 150th anniversary celebration. We have much to thank the early Victorians for, great visionaries, they establishing the first dog show. England ‘the cradle’ of what is now a worldwide sport & hobby. All that is the very best in pedigree dogs.

For me, & so many others the late Meriel Hathaway will always be synonymous with the National Show & its continued progress in modern times. This event runs like a well oiled highly polished machine, staffed by professionals. In fact from the committee & the many helpers involved in this huge event, most of their time is given free gratis & for nothing. We have much to thank these volunteer workers for. Hospitality as usual second to none. It was good to see the new president Keith Young & his wife June very much part of the show & helping to look after the many guests.

My job was to judge the pastoral group. Some really good dogs to go over. My first cut was the Aus Shepherd, Bearded Collie, Groenendael, Border Collie, Smooth Collie, Lancashire Heeler, Buhund, Polish Lowland, Samoyed & Pem Corgi.

A second appraisal & it was down to the final four.

The Beardie Collie, a breed which has maintained a high order of excellence over the years, Ch Potterdale Platinum Plus, breed type par excellence, with correct hard flat coat. Moving out & covering the ground & holding his topline with correct tail carriage.

G2 the Polish Lowland, Ch Mybeards Hero, also a true representative of the Standard. Built right moves right, with the dense, harsh coat which is so necessary for this hardy breed.

G3 the Smooth Collie, Ch Clingstone’s Hot Shot at Foxearth, another who is true to type, well balanced, completely sound on the move with correct topline. A credit to the breed. It would be good if we could see more Rough Collies move with such precision.

G4 the Pem Corgi, Ch Pemcader Thunderball, came comfortably in here. His immaculate presentation, correct front & sound movement, will always make him a contender.

JEAN LANNING

Pastoral puppy group

I am very grateful to the officers & committee of the National for giving me the opportunity of going over these lovely pastoral puppies.

I selected nine from the line-up for further consideration which were: Aus Shepherd, Groenendael, Border Collie, Catalan Sheepdog, OES, Polish Lowland Sheepdog, PMD, Samoyed & Sheltie.

My winner & thus PG1 was Allmark The Sequel, Aus Shepherd, a 6½ month old dog. Good size & shape with pleasing head & neck, correct front & topline. Moving like a pro both front & rear & making the best of the large ring. Expertly handled as normal.

PG2 was Edglonian Starlet, Sheltie, 11½ months bitch. Correct size & shape. Excellent expression & head size. Well used ears, & correct length of neck, good front & shoulders, good topline & very good quarters. Pleasing on the move.

PG3 was Kanamaren Trick Of The Tail at Borderbeau, Border Collie, 11½ months dog. Still has a touch more growing to do. Good head & neck with good front & feet. Good depth of brisket for his age. Correct topline & strong in hindquarters, used the ring well on the move.

PG4 was Easy To Love Carpathian White Smile for Blosdsdomrai, Samoyed, 7 month old dog. Good in size & shape. Excellent head & expression with correct length of neck. Correct front & feet. Good body for his age & correct topline. Pleasing on the move.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all four gained their titles in the months to come. A very pleasing group.

BEN REYNOLDS-FROST

Terrier group

I would like to express my appreciation to the officers & committee of the society for inviting me to judge the terrier group. Their hard work in organising & running the show was evident throughout the day & I also thank the respective breed judges for sending forward fine examples of their respective breeds causing me to have to make many close decisions.

The group was well represented with just the Glen of Imaal & the Scottish Terrier unable to stay. From the remainder I shortlisted 8 for further consideration including the Border, Karison Kosta; Irish, Ch/Am Ch Irvonhill Leave It To Me; Skye, Salena The Magnificent One; & SCWT, Flaxela Weaver Of Dreams.

G1 went to the Manchester Terrier, Ch Digelsa Declaration, one I have previously awarded top breed honours to & today had no reason to change my mind, for me he fits the Standard as required being compact elegant & sound, his outgoing temperament is what makes this dog, well made throughout & many positive breed virtues, just needed to settle down on the move more to show himself to advantage.

G2 was awarded to the Kerry Blue, Ch Torum’s Cairo Fred, well presented & handled to get the most out of him, good head proportions, strong neck flowing into well made shoulders, short coupled body with well sprung ribs, well angulated rear which producing good driving movement, coat in good condition.

I awarded G3 to the Parson Russell, Ch Alncroft I Spy, this bitch is another who is an ideal fit to the Standard & another who have previously given top honours to, the most recent being BOB at Crufts, loved feminine appearance yet retaining breed characteristics & looking capable of doing an honest day’s work.

For G4 I placed the Bull Terrier, Fortifeyed Beauty at Aricon, very well balanced dog, muscular throughout with any sign of coarseness, head of good shape & proportions, neat eye & well set ears, giving that typical breed expression, strong neck, nice length of body, soundly made rear construction.

MAX KING

Terrier puppy group

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge my first puppy group.

I shortlisted the Border, Irish, Jack Russell, Kerry Blue, Norwich, Parson Russell, Skye & SCWT.

PG1 was Fantasa Blonde Rufus, an eyecatching SCWT, loved his head shape with dark eyes, ears well set, good in shoulders & body, strong hindquarters, stifles well bent, hocks well let down, in good coat & colour, moved & showed well, looking good from all angles.

PG2 was Kreatin Extra Mile, loved this young Norwich, so outgoing, wedged shape head, clear dark eyes, ears well set & used, short compact body, good bone & muscle, in very good coat, even after a long day a happy moving dog, never stopped showing.

PG3 was Balliswells Glengyle at Glebeheath, Border, liked his shape, typical otter head, short strong muzzle, narrow front legs of good bone, spannable, harsh coat, thick pelt, well set tail, good hindquarters, moving well both ways.

PG4 was Frisco Kiaora at Jeraro, Skye, strong head with well set pricked ears, just enough neck into a long level back. Nicely bodied for one so young, hindquarters strong with good angulation, in correct coat, looked good on the move.

 KEN BARTLETT

Terrier veteran group

Some grand dogs competing here, with a shortlist that would be fitting for an ‘adult’ group.

VG1 was Ch Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, Stafford, lovely feminine lady, but still full of strength. Loved her expression. She has a very well proportioned head, nice width of chest, well ribbed with well muscled rear. Sound as they come & in gleaming condition.

VG2 was Am/Can/Int Ch Sulan Fancy That, Border Terrier, in super jacket & very well balanced. Liked her head & powerful jaw. Lengthy neck, well balanced in her angulations & the best of toplines.

VG3 was Janski Celtic Ceska, Cesky, so very typical, & a sound mover with correct tail carriage. Strong jaw, correct neck, super body, correct rising topline & a very strong rear.

VG4 was Glorfindel Secret Shadow at Kilfinan, Skye, liked his strength all through. The most lovely head, lengthy neck. Well ribbed and holds a super topline. Well made rear, so very well muscled still.

JEFF HORSWELL

Toy group

This was quite an even group, hence a first cut of 11 dogs for further consideration & there were others not far behind.

The first was comprised of Bolognese, S/c Chihuahua, Chinese Crested, Japanese Chin, Min Pin, Papillon, Pomeranian; & the four placed dogs.

In 4th spot was the young Maltese, Diamond Gemeni Out Of Control at Snowkai, who had won his first CC on the day. He made a lovely picture in outline, rock hard topline standing & moving, a beautifully presented silky coat & excellent movement. His head, eyes & pigmentation are beautiful. He is top size but also top quality & gave a very good performance earning him this well deserved place.

For third place I chose the Italian Greyhound bitch, Ch Florita Tueletta, who is a lovely curvy shape which she holds on the move with her stylish high stepping action which is pretty accurate. She has elegance in head & expression, fine bone & lovely coat & skin.

Runner up was the Yorkshire Terrier, Int/Jap Ch Jap My Precious JP Kagayaki, who looked well with her steel blue body coat with correct texture & cool to the touch. Her tan is good & underneath the coat she is well constructed & this was evident in her action, & she held her topline firmly. Beautifully feminine in the head. Animated & confident in her carriage.

Winner for me was the young Bichon, Pamplona The Real McCoy, another winning his first CC. I loved his balance & carriage round the ring from his entrance into the group & examination on the table revealed a truly beautiful head & eye, excellent pigmentation, a well constructed body & good coat. He really motored round the ring driven by a very strong rear. I think he has a good future, & I was delighted to see him win BIS under Bill Browne-Cole.

FRANK KANE

Pastoral veteran group

It was a pleasure for me to judge these veterans & I was especially pleased to see in the great majority, their excellent clean dentition, always a sign of good husbandry & care. It takes a hard heart to leave any of them out of the cut & many of them had won well under me in the past but it’s a hard necessity of the sport so my shortlisted dogs included the Groenendael, Border Collie, Puli, Lancashire Heeler, Buhund, & Pyreneana.

In fourth spot was the Pembroke Corgi bitch, Ch Chawton Call Me Madam at Cottivy, appealed for her type & balance, firm topline & ultra sound movement. She appealed greatly in head & expression.

In third place was the b/m Rough Collie, Ch Brilyn Platinum Lustre, a pleasure to see her go with light stride & confidence, holding her outline. She is a lovely colour & well proportioned & full of quality.

Runner up was the Shetland Sheepdog, Ch Rannerdale Star O’ The North, who floated round the ring seemingly effortless in her stride. She is beautiful quality all through.

However there was no denying the sparkling Samoyed, Ch Nikara Diamond Dancer, who is for me a very special dog & great mover. I made him BIS at the LKA several years ago & I think he looks as good as ever. He came back on Sunday to win BVIS.

FRANK KANE

Toy puppy group

This has to be one of the nicest jobs when you are a judge & today I had the pleasure of seeing some really promising toy youngsters.

Although not placed I included the Bichon, L/c Chihuahua, Lowchen & Pomeranian in my shortlist.

PG4 was a charming Italian Greyhound, Itib Imagineer, a nicely constructed fawn youngster, delightful headpiece, beautiful eyes & expression, long neck, well defined withers, eye pleasing backline & that graceful arch leading to sweeping hindquarters. His coat is so fine & he showed a pleasing, even stride as he went around the ring.

PG3 was a quite charming Maltese, Shawhills A Star Is Born, & she drifted into the ring looking quite immaculate, lovely headpiece super pigmentation. So well ribbed, level backed & a delight to go over. Stepped out with much gusto & once she settles a little, I’m sure she will go far.

PG2 was a gorgeous young b/m red Pekingese bitch, Pekehuis It’s Simply Magic, compact, big ribbed, little neck, so well boned in extremely good coat, high set tail & her headpiece is something special. Wide, shallow, excellent nose, no wrinkle, well set ears & such winning dark, large eyes. She moved around the ring with all the zest & self belief in a fearless manner & surely she is going to be a big success in the breed.

However, my heart was stolen by the young Pug, Rhodenash Dream Chaser of Taftazini, b/m fawn of stunning quality, especially her head. Beautifully worked yet not overdone, with lots of detail, neat ears, gorgeous eyes & expression, so compact in body with excellent ribs, tight tail, well hammed & her action was so very good. So she was PG1 & on my return home I was thrilled to learn that she had won RBPIS under the Travella expert Bill Browne-Cole. Congratulations!

ALBERT WIGHT

Utility group

It was a special honour to be invited to judge this group at our countries oldest and prestigious show, I must thank the committee.

It was an excellently balanced, spacious ring with every breed present and indeed there were very many top quality dogs present making the experience even more enjoyable and quite a few excellent dogs didn’t make the cut.

I kept eight in for the final run off which were, Akita, Eurasier, Japanese Shiba Inu, Lhasa Apso, Miniature Poodle, Standard Poodle, Shar-Pei & Tibetan Spaniel.

The final nod had to go to the Akita bitch, Ch Stecal’s Love At First Sight, she is so aptly named, it was for me! when I gave her a CC last year and today she was even better. She came into the ring & owned it, never put a foot wrong, I love her size and proportions, brilliant, clear markings and the most fabulous, feminine head with good cheeks and a glorious expression. She is so well put together and is a picture standing and a thrill on the move, totally sound. I was delighted that she went RBIS.

G2 was awarded to the Japanese Shiba Inu, Ch/Am/Cro Ch Vormund Leonardo Dicaprio, wonderful colour dog who exudes ‘type’ & essence. He is correct for size & proportions, has a super, masculine head, correct eyes & super cheeks. I love his harsh jacket. He has the correct rib depth to height proportions & excellent angles. His movement is a delight a dog that just would not be ignored.

Into G3 came the Shar-Pei, Ch Ashowai Taste Of Diamonds, a top quality bitch, right for size & balance with the correct rise over the loins, she has a beautiful head & clear eyes with neat triangular ears she has correct front & rear angles, just the right amount of wrinkle, well muscled she is so sound & stylish, really fills your eye.

G4 was won by the Lhasa, Sandauri Showstopper of Kutani, a very honest dog without exaggeration, correct in head, super expression, excellent rib & topline with correct tail such a sound, well made dog & of correct size & proportions finished with a quality coat. I have to say again, it was a group with so many top quality dogs.

KEITH NATHAN

Utility puppy group

PG1 was Dvojica Chilli Chutney for Wrendragge, Dalmatian, this bitch took my eye as soon as she entered the ring & she was so sound on the move, so true coming & going, also made a beautiful outline when stood, very attractive head & graceful neck onto a clean front, nice rear & tail carriage.

PG2 was Vormund Butterfly Effect, Shiba bitch, this kennel always seems to produce the goods when it comes to Shibas. Head was exhibiting that characteristic blunt triangle with that wonderful Japanese expression & typical forward pointing ears, making a gorgeous outline when stood & storming round the ring.

PG3 was Wildax Three Times A Lady, Boston, what a gorgeous little girl with a Standard headpiece & strong ears & alert expression, super shape & size, so square & well bodied for a youngster, so well balanced & what a showgirl for her handler when stood & well controlled on the move, should have a bright future.

PG4 was Argo Stecal’s Ami Mignone, Akita, another kennel that seems to produce some of the best Akitas in the ring & a handler who knows what she is doing & after all that is part of the total picture & what a picture they make, very much all male no mistaking, ears carried forward on this super headed male & so well bodied with a good strong neck & nice tight elbows, striding round the ring with ease taking powerful steps.

TERENCE D D BALFOUR-BURGESS

Utility veteran group

VG1 was Ch Alilah’s Very Impressed at Waterley, shaded gold Tibetan Terrier bitch of outstanding type & so full of quality. Balanced head, good neck & shoulder, so well proportioned & in great coat of correct texture that was beautifully presented. Moved so soundly.

VG2 was Ch Shulune Ice Phantom of Dalamanti, handsome Dalmatian, all male but still with a look of quality. Impressed in outline & moved with power & style.

VG3 was Ch Michandy Great Expectation by Navarre, black Miniature Poodle bitch who holds her form well. Beautifully chiselled head with wicked eye, so well balanced & in great condition with excellent coat texture. Moved soundly, just lost.
