  I am not sure that I have done this before, but I am going to use my column this month for an out-and-out rant. Those of you who pay me the compliment of reading this column regularly will be aware that I moved house recently, last November.

  By the time this piece is published, it will no doubt be raining again, but at the moment May has made her entrance shrouded in a mantle of blue and accompanied by a strange golden orb whose warm rays have finally germinated my bloomin’ tomatoes.

  SEVERAL times recently I have heard that some of our major championship shows are losing large sums of money every year. If this is true then maybe it’s time to take a hard look at the way our show scene is structured.
