Charity motorcycle ride on course to raise money for rescue
BEN Wilkes, a trustee of the Border Collie Trust GB, is preparing to ride his motorcycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End in July to raise money for the Trust and the Association of Dogs’ and Cats’ Home (ADCH).
En route he will be visiting 13 rescue centres which are members of the ADCH.
The Trust wants to improve the life of dogs in kennels and allow them to use their natural abilities while they are there. At the Trust’s kennels there is a large exercise area full of long grass which dogs run through to find treats hidden there, and other stimulating activities to keep them amused.
The charity has also reclaimed a large overgrown mound for the dogs to run on, and hopes to plant trees and shrubs and create paths and features which will challenge and improve a dog’s confidence.
Inside the kennels, the charity is using music and furniture to replicate a home environment and even installing pot plants to help make the dogs feel comfortable and prepare them for new homes.
"I’m looking forward to the challenge of the trip, with the added excitement of including a number of visits in just two days,” Ben said.
