This year it is free to enter and consists of six categories – Portrait, Man’s Best Friend, Dogs At Play, Dogs At Work, I Love Dogs Because… – a category for those aged 16 and under – and a new category this year, Puppy.
An overall winner will be chosen from these.
"The competition is firmly established in the dog lover and photography enthusiasts’ calendar,” said a spokesman for the KC. "Each year it grows in size and stature, and the strength and beauty of the images continue to improve, impressing judges year on year.”
Previous winning images have included a Whippet basking in the sun, a terrier running through a field of poppies and a puppy pulling an older dog’s tail.
Last year’s judge, photographer Martin Usborne, said: "There were so many great images and a lot of humour there too. Most of all I got a sense of how much the dogs were loved and admired by their owners.”
Entries close on August 31. The overall winner will receive a trophy, an Uggie collar and lead from Holly & Lil, and their image will be reproduced on the front cover of the Kennel Gazette and put on display at Discover Dogs and Crufts. Winner of the under 16 category will enjoy a day at Crufts 2013 with the KC’s press photography team.
