WELL, WHAT a week that was – it seems that everyone who has ever had any contact with a pedigree dog, not merely just owners, but even those whose neighbours have a pet dog, or are second cousin to someone who once had a dog, are suddenly experts on all the terrible things that we, as breeders and exhibitors, carry out in the name of pedigree dog breeding.

DOG WORLD's dedicated team of breed note writers provide a detailed weekly snapshot of individual breeds but often their contributions deserve a wider audience. Here we feature an extract from Liz Thornton's Irish Wolfhound breed notes:

The question “What do I need to look for when picking a puppy to show?” has come up. There are several people in the breed who have a great eye for a puppy no matter what family line it comes from. When I first breed a litter, I am calling every litter after a letter!

All my puppies are "Benboee B......" Every Benboee puppy registered begins with a "B". I tend to have a different theme for each litter but every single Benboee puppy begins with a "B", even my pet puppies.
