Someone recently said that to win in the breed is more important than in the Group - that is just the icing on the cake. However it is the all-rounders, those who may not always be au fait with specific points that make the breed what it is, that see the breed winner in the Group. If it comes to a decision between two dogs of equal merit when judging the breed, who will the all-rounder go for?

I personally enjoy going under both breed specialists and all rounders as without variety would it not get boring to go under the same judges time after time knowing what dogs they were going to put up in the classes?

Either, as long as they are the sort of judge who, when they step into the ring, forget any preconceptions they might have. Lucky is the breed which has a sensible proportion of good all-round judges and good specialists each year. Add a few knowledgeable overseas judges, a few first timers, and that's an interesting mix. However with all the societies working independently of each other it's pure chance whether you get a good mix in any one year.

I much prefer the all-rounders as they aren't involved in breed politics, but then again they are inclined to put up the dogs they normally see sent through to the groups, which are normally the flashy ones

I personally prefer to show under a multi-breed judge. My reason for this is I find the breed judge puts favour to those exhibitors they know personally as they very often compete beside them. Multi-breed judges generally are non biased so will just look at the dog, not the exhibitor. Of course, I may be generalising a bit, but this is just through my own experience.
