BIS: L-R, Judge Hans Gruttner, BIS, Jaskarin Bravo and handler, Finnish TC Chairman Matti Luoso and handler, Wilhelmina Wallden, daughter of Saija Reiman-Wallden and Markus Wallden of the Jaskarin Australian Terriers.
THIS YEAR’s show attracted a record entry of 867 dogs and had an international panel of judges, including Margaret Phillips who had a lovely entry of 63 Bedlingtons, while I had 60 Parson Russells, ten Cesky Terriers and 25 Glen of Imaals.
Parsons were of high quality, with just a few oversize, but with excellent coats, including some quality smooths. BOB went to Miselin Maxfactor, bred by Jaana Valijakka by Tallitontun Wagner ex M Matty Move, a most lovely dog who could win anywhere in the world. His pedigree is a combination of Heythrop, Muhlross, Mindlen, Clystlands and Howlbeck, with a good sprinkling of Ridley dogs in the background – no wonder he appealed to me! BOS, sired by Maxfactor’s litter brother, was Karvahaarlarin Onnen Amuletti, bred by Anni Leivo and owned by her breeder with Tiina Raatikainen. BP was Miselin Moscow Lights, also ex Matty Move and perhaps, not surprisingly, the Miselin kennel also took best breeder’s group.
Cesky Terriers were very even, all of good type although many were too big. Both BOB and BOS came from the younger generation and both were of correct size. I loved the dog, Laura Loikkanen’s Cantabile Tempo (bred by Mia Johnsson by Sotnosar’s Elmer ex C Penelope) for type, but he carried a very gay tail so I gave BOB to the elegant bitch, Night Wish Bozena (Chochol Tabat ex Bellsweets Night Wish), bred in Norway by Kristin Johansen and owned by Laura along with Katja Sjoroos. Mia Johnsson’s very consistent Cantabile kennel was best breeder’s group.
Finland has long been renowned for the quality of the Glen of Imaals and I wasn’t disappointed in this entry. BOB went to Suvi Lehtinen’s Gleann Catmondoo, who also took BV. He is from pure English breeding – Madach Jack Snipe ex Malsville Original Folk. BOS, bred in Sweden by Annica Bladh and owned by Ann-Mari Assinen and Anne Hakanen, was Irish Rover’s Lady Bridget Bee (Inchmarlo Tuirbee ex Donvalset Bonnie Colleen). Completing a hat-trick for British breeding, best junior was Susannah and Esko Suban’s Jeonty Flown Finnair (Ch/Dutch/Bel Ch J Wannabe Buster ex Ch J Daisy Downut), exported by Jean Rogers.
Hans Gruttner from Germany judged BIS and had some lovely terriers to choose from. His pick for the top spot was the Australian Terrier, Multi Ch Jaskarin Bravo (Bluepepper’s Woody Woodpecker ex J Rokkirakki), owner-bred by Markus Wallen from Sweden.
