A RHODESIAN Ridgeback championship show judge and exhibitor has been banned for four years for harassing a club officer.
S John Baldwin, formerly of Harrogate, became the subject of a recent A43 hearing of the Kennel Club’s Disciplinary Sub-Committee after he was bound over by Oldham Magistrates in December under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
The court heard that Mr Baldwin had harassed Sheila Firth, former secretary of the Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club, during 2005.
This is the second time Mr Baldwin, who formerly campaigned the Mangwe Ridgebacks, has been banned by the KC.
In 1990 he received a five-year ban for hitting one of his dogs on the head while in the show ring. He said he was chastising the bitch for growling at the judge.
This time the sub-committee disqualified Mr Baldwin from:
• Exhibiting at, taking part in, attending and/or having any connection with any event licensed by the KC;
• Being or becoming a member of any canine club or society registered with or affilitated to the KC;
• Acting as an officer or serving on the committee of any canine society;
• Taking part in the management of or judging at any event licensed by the KC;
• From effecting registration of any or all dogs and/or progeny of such dogs owned and/or registered by him (whether or not jointly owned and/or whether or not owned and/or registered in the name of a nominee). The ban ends on June 26, 2012.

Voluntary

A spokesman for the sub-committee said: “It is our view that officers of a KC-registered society who act in a voluntary capacity should not be subject to or at risk from harassment and unwarranted interference and approaches in the administration of the affairs of the society.”
