In training for her charity hike – Trish Adams with her ‘oldie’ Ben and a friend’s Bassets.
A WOMAN is walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for two canine charities – The Oldies’ Club and Dogs Trust.
Dogs Trust is well known and the Oldies’ Club, as it suggests, helps find homes for the more elderly dogs in rescue who are often overlooked or unwanted because of their age.
Trish Adams, who lives in Chippenham, is one of Oldies’ supporters and is hoping her marathon trek will raise £10,000 which will be split between the charities. Until his death last year she was the owner of one of the club’s dogs, Storm, a Border Collie.

Another chance

“There are so many older dogs out there who deserve another chance,” she said.
“Storm died at the age of 12 last year and my other dog Ben, also a Border Collie, is 14 this year. He is too old to walk with me but my friends will be driving to meet up with me at various points and he will come up with them.”
‘Trish’s Trudge’, as she calls it, will take five months and cover 1,200 miles. The feat will mark her birthday.
“It will be a life-changing experience to coincide with me reaching the age of 40,” she said.
“I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve been doing some training with my backpack, and I’m absolutely determined to do it. I’m also hoping to meet lots of new people along the way.”
Trish has already received several offers of a comfortable bed to sleep at various points in her journey.
She is also hoping that someone may offer to lend a camper van or motorhome for some of the time so she can get a good night’s rest and see Ben more often. “I’ll miss him terribly,” she said.
At present she is running a cleaning business in addition to house and dog-sitting. But after her trek is completed she hopes to find a job working with dogs, preferably training them.
A spokesman for The Oldies Club said, “Trish is a lovely lady and we think she must be slightly crazy to have decided to walk 1,200 miles – and possibly more.
“This is a wonderful thing for her to do to help rescue dogs and we are very grateful that she has chosen us as one of the recipients of the funds raised.”
