KC confirm four-day Paignton

THE KENNEL Club has confirmed that it has granted permission for Paignton to change dates and extend the championship show to four days.
A decision on the 2013 is ‘pending for the time being’, the KC said.
As revealed in last week’s DOG WORLD, the show will start on August 5 with gundogs; pastoral and working groups will be on Monday, utility and terrier on Tuesday, and hound and toy on Wednesday.
Best way forward
“Having received a request from Paignton to change its show date for 2012 and 2013, the General Committee directed that a meeting be held with the Association to better understand its circumstances and for reassurances that this proposed change was the best way forward,” the KC said. “The Committee was mindful of the number of other championship shows scheduled at the same time and, although there was no direct clash of CCs with any shows, the Committee also directed that those breed clubs scheduling championship shows on the proposed 2012 dates be consulted to find out whether they believed the change would adversely affect their shows.
“Having met representatives of Paignton, the Committee was satisfied that its request was a reasonable way forward for the Association. There was a mixed response from the breed clubs, with some welcoming the change of date believing it would be encouraging for exhibitors to have two shows at which to compete within a few days of each other, while others were of the opposing view.”
The Committee also received comments from the two group championship show societies whose shows were close to the new date.
“Taking all these views into account, the Committee was of the view that Paignton should be given the opportunity to have the benefit of a weekend date, and agreed the new 2012 date,” the spokesman said. “It did, however, defer consideration of the application to change the 2013 show date until the effect of the 2012 change is known.”
