I am able to add further to my series of articles on opportunities for junior handling training and this one really pleases me – both because it is in the north west and serves an area which is dear to my heart and because it isn’t new as the the songs says it just ‘keeps on running.’
Year on year, Westmorland Canine Association quietly and efficiently continues to give the juniors in its local area one of the best best deals in terms of training it is possible to get regionally at the moment.
Each year it holds four training sessions – on Oct 12, Nov 16, Jan 11 and Feb 15.
The training course is open for six to16 year olds and covers all aspects of junior handling. The sessions are held at Borwick which is near Carnforth and is very easily accessible from the M6 as it is only five mins drive from junction 35. The four inputs are held on Sunday afternoons from noon until 4pm and the cost for the whole series is a very reasonable £45 which includes lunch as well as the training. Family and friends are welcome to go along and homemade food and refreshments are available for them at very reasonable prices.
All aspects of junior handling
The training sessions will concentrate on all aspects of junior handling and will be tailored to the level of experience you have.
The trainers are all experienced handlers with a number of years of training for this particular course under their belts and include some successful ex-juniors among their ranks. Those taking part are expected to bring their own dog and most of the training will be based around their handling of this dog, however some time is also usefully spent looking at the varying techniques of handling other breeds as well.
Accompanying the course is a comprehensive information brochure which will help junior handlers to brush up on their handling from time to time in the years following the course.
The numbers are limited to allow the depth that is worked to and so early booking is essentiak early for this one if you don’t want to risk being disappointed – over the years the course has attracted juniors from all over the north and also as far up as Glasgow in Scotland. If you would like the full information and an application form contact the Westmorland CA Junior Handling Co-ordinator, Mary Pascoe on either 01704 553534 or 07962 190312.
