BIRMINGHAM FTC held its championship show recently. This year it was the turn of Wires for CCs with the judge for Smooths being Ann Maughan. We could not attend this year as Roger was celebrating a significant birthday that weekend, so we had other plans. However, the results were sent to me and are as follows. From an entry of 23 with five absent, Ann found her BOB in Mary Crouch’s Yoxella Writers Block among Oaxaca who was handled to his win by Malcolm Murray. BB was Margaret Clifford’s Migley Whiteside handled by Andrew Goodsell. BP was Marie and Adrian Brookes’ Mischief In Disguise.
The SFTA open show was held at the now familiar and dog friendly Weedon Village Hall. It was an early start in order to get there and set everything up in readiness for the show which was to start at 11.30am with a committee meeting to be held at 10am. We soon had everything organised between the two of us and once the meeting had been held all was ready for the judging of the show with Adrian Knoght (Angolcroft) officiating. There was an entry of 38 with, I think, only four absentees. BIS was Stefania Savini’s Starpride Devil In Disguise handled by Joanna Darby. I gather now that this dog is, in fact, in Joanna and Daphne’s ownership.
During the lunch break it was time for the fancy dress competition which has become part of the proceedings. Derek Graffin judged with Rose Turner winning. The junior handling classes also took place with Fleur Marston topping the youngsters. As ever there was Christmas cake and wine for all to enjoy which was sponsored by Rose Marston, the cake having been made as ever by Malcolm Murray. This concluded events in Smooth Fox Terriers for 2009, an enjoyable day which always seems to attract pet owners and newcomers which is what we need.
Another judge for you for 2010 is Brian Rodgers at Border Union. All we are missing now is Leeds, Richmond and Belfast. If anyone can help out with those please do, we will then have a full set.
Finally Tieryn Clark, one of the young handlers from Devon, has gained the title of ShCM with her bitch Sidewater Tinkerbelle – what a great start in her first year in Smooths.
