THE SHOW season kicked off for us at Manchester and it is to be hoped that by the time the next show, Crufts, comes along a few more of you will have girded up your loins. From an original entry of 18, Alan Davies had only ten Wires to judge. I imagine that if observers had blinked more than once they would have missed the whole thing. I do not, of course, begrudge the winners or, indeed, argue with their placings, but it cannot bring competitors quite the same sense of achievement to win with so little competition.
DCC and BOB went to John Averis and Tony Barker’s Saredon Mr Nice Guy, handled as always by Andrew Westwood. Nice Guy went G3. RDCC went to Freidrich-Wilhelm Schöneberg’s Ch Diamant vd Schönen Bergen, again handled by Andrew.
Dieny de Munter-Uiterwijk’s trip to these shores was well worth it as she took BCC with Firefox van Foliny Home. I believe this makes this bitch up. RBCC went to Herr Schoneberg’s Diana vd SB, handled by Andrew who appears to have made a killing with most of the top honours. There were no puppies exhibited.
Although I am fast becoming the lesser spotted secretary in show circles, I will be on parade at Crufts with the 2009 yearbooks so I look forward to seeing and chatting to you at the breed stand. I am wondering if the sponsors, DFS, will have some of its sofas strategically placed around the ring and, even more importantly, outside the ladies’ loos – we might as well approach the inevitable long queues with the assurance that we can hopefully make ourselves comfortable or even have a nap.
There must be some news out there somewhere, but none of it has reached me. I believe Hazel will be back in harness for the next breed notes, so send any news to her. If she is not, she will pass it on to me.
