THE 2010 championship show season got underway with Manchester taking place at the now usual venue of Bingley Hall near Stafford. Smooths were judged in the Prestwood Centre which adjoins the main hall. We were second in the ring after Wires with 51 Smooths being entered with ten absent. Andrew Goodsell was judging the breed for the first time, having already awarded CCs in Wires on previous occasions.
We got in the ring at around 10.30am. DCC went to Ch Glendraterra Rising Sun (Ch G Sunset Strip ex Ch Glenpower Band Aid) and RDCC to Julie Griffiths and Keith Jones’ Yoxella White Tie (Ch Glendraterra Dylan Thomas ex Darlaur Delores with Y), handled by Keith.
From junior BCC, her second, and BOB was Phillip Horspool’s Rotur Celtic Desire of Adaires (Ch Glendraterra Sundance Kid ex Ch R Celtic Candy), bred by Rose Turner. RBCC was Holly Crisp and Brian Porter’s Merekoast Vixen (Sufredon Masterpiece ex Hartdon Golden Queen at Coolins), handled by Janet Porter.
BP was Rachel Pearce’s Dobelands Smoothly Does It for Alkinra )D Touch Of Frost ex D Sebena), bred by Sharon Lewis and handled by Andrew Westwood.
After the judging, there was time to catch up with friends and watch other breeds and then, of course, there was the terrier group which was first in the ring. I have to say it was nice to get out for a day after all the bad weather we have had. There were even weather warnings for the day of the show but, fortunately, it certainly didn’t seem to deter many exhibitors in Smooths with people having travelled from the north, Wales and Scotland.
With nothing now for a few weeks until Crufts, keep any news of open show wins coming to me. DOG WORLD’s editorial policy allows BIS, RBIS, BPIS or RBPIS wins from general open shows for breeds which have CC status. At breed-specific open shows, DW only includes BIS but will include RBIS if the winner is from the same kennel, owned by the same person or the win is in some way exceptional. It also includes BOS if there are two judges.
