I HAVE quite a bit of news this week. There is some sad news of the death of Ann and Noel Quinn’s boy Avonbeg Mischief Maker alias Brogan. Although Brogan was a good age it is never a good time for a dog to go and I am sure he will be sorely missed by Ann and Noel.
I had been invited to one of the Groom Team England events so off we set with two Glens accompanied by Cresta Garner my helper for the day and her Glen Woody. It seemed strange for me to be at an event with some of the more barbered breeds and our grooming and stripping demo was with a Standard Poodle – not too much difference, then, in the preparation. The event was not only a competition day but also a seminar for everyday groomers who prepared pets. So we had a combination of professional show groomers and pet groomers – some of whom had never even seen a Glen.
One of the groomers said she had been grooming for 20 years and had never had a Glen in to prepare. I showed everyone the every day grooming and how and where to strip the dog. It was advantageous to those present as I took a newly stripped dog, one whose coat was half grown and one who was just hairy. I certainly gained some tips and those who attended said they enjoyed the day. I don’t think my finished article was as good as the poodle though.
We followed this weekend by going to Paignton where Paul Wilkinson awarded BD and BOB to Garner’s Johnny Be Good at Romainville who was also BOB at Bath and BB to George’s Briar Rose at Romainvilles.
RBD was a new exhibitor in Chick’s Chicklade Midnight Mist and RBB George’s Romainville Rags’n Tatters.
At WKC Roger Wright awarded DCC to Rogers’ Ch/Dutch/Bel Ch Jeonty Wannabe Buster and BCC to Rogers’ Jeonty Fern Grass.
RDCC was Welch’s Bel Ch Brockland Brayhead Lad and RBCC Hardy’s Amhard Cut And Come Again. BP was Hardy’s Amhard Freebooter. The breeder competition was won by my Romainville.
Concerning the breeder competition I have been asked to mention that stewards as well as judges need to be made aware of how this competition operates. Neither knew what to do regarding points and no one told us we had to go in later against other breeders in the group. By the time we found out one of our number had gone home.
I have some really sad news that Brenda Jones, one of our most long standing owners, has died. I do not know any further details at this time so cannot comment. I do know Brenda was poorly a few weeks back.
If you have any news or results let me know as there are no more shows for a while so any contribution is welcome.
